planning to go on a two three weeks trip to Northern Areas to spend some time there to see some culture, landscape and meet people.

planning to take bus to Gilgit from rawalpinid and will start from there. After that we need to plan the journey accordingly.

Can anybody advice us with the following:-

1) which is the best time to see the autumn colour of Northern areas.

2) Is there any chances of land slides during that time .

3) Secondly, do we need to carry woolens as well. Will it be too cold in the north beginning.

The best time to visit autumn colour in the northern areas specially in Hunza is from 15th October to 15th of November.

There is no chance of land slid during the mentioned period of time.

You definitely be needing warm cloths/jackets as it gets quite cold (specially at night) in the mountains from October onwards.

Its not very good time to visit Gilgit/Baltistan due to volatile law & order situation in the area.

North of Gilgit is always OK.

There is sometimes unrest in Gilgit town.

I'd rather not take the bus from Rawalpindi. Better to fly, although lots of flights are cancelled.

October is the best mth for Autumn colours and yes it gets cold at night, but you could allways buy a nice blanket when you get up there !

Yes, if you can afford a little splurge the old fort in Shigar is a fantastic place to hold up for a day or two, great food and a unique heritage type hotel.
