There is no multiple entry tourist visa for Pakistan of one year validity you get one year valid visa only if you re working here.

The multiple entry visa is also valid for 6 months and you have to extend it in three months, the extension procedure is very easy. There is no difference between single & multiple entry tourist visa in terms of validity.

You have to enter the country within 90 days after you get the visa but the visa policy changes quite frequently so you should confirm this from the consulate or embassy.

some information given in previous notes are incorrect. Apparently each overseas consulate/embassy decide independently whether or not to grant visa. I received visa in 7 days, although consulate website said it would take 6-8 weeks. Although I won't arrive in Pakistan until May the visa states it is valid for one entry and expires on June 16.

In regards to Peshawar: Was in Pakistan last August and asked a few Pashtuns who I hung out with in Sost about the deal there. I was told it is "relatively" safe and doable but you need a local to invite you, a "fixer", and/or a tour guide to make arrangements for you. BUT not for Americans, Peshawar is a definitely off limits for US citizens no matter what. Again, this info is from Pashtuns who live in Peshawar so I would consider it to be pretty reliable.
Would also second #2 re the KKH. The northern areas are amazing, and you could always go the long way through the 'stans to Iran.

OP - I've had several visas for Pakistan issued in Australia and these days you are lucky to get the six months' validity/90 day entry visa. Be grateful for that. The visa is valid for six months form the day of issues, and you can enter Pakistan at any time up to and including the final day of validity and then stay for up to 90 days (even if this takes you beyond the six months' validity of the visa). So if you cut short your time in India, even by only one week, you can make it work.

Note that you cannot get a tourist visa for Pakistan from anywhere else outside your country of permanent residence.

The road from Quetta to the Iran border truly is dangerous, so it's more than just a matter of inconvenience. The police will restrict your movements in the region, and you will have to pay for a security escort whether you catch a bus or take a car. There is a train to Iran every two weeks -- you could consider that.

It's difficult to give advice on Peshawar. It's a very interesting city, but over the past few years it has attracted more violence and suicide attacks than just about any other city in Pakistan. The advice from Pashtuns in Sost is curious but not definitive. About a year ago, a Chinese woman who was in Peshawar as a tourist was shot dead in the street along with her a local guide/fixer. But a number of travellers, including myself, have visited the city alone and without any special precautions and have enjoyed ourselves. So I would neither recommend that you go or recommend that you don't go.

Bonjour from Islamabad,

Peshawar, that's a lovely city but the travelers to Peshawar should avoid the busy markets, car parkings and especially the famous smugglers' bazaar, rest seems fine there .

Inspiring comments about Peshawar being a foreign traveler to Peshawar by emmeff , bravo .

Hi

We are planning to travel in a camper from Amsterdam to India. Crossing the Zahedan/Taftan border into Pakistan in June. Do you think this is possible with the road and safety condition ?

thanks

Bonjour from Islamabad,

That seems a very adventurous trip in a camper van, brought back the memories of olden days .
You'd get a police escort when you start your trip from Taftan to Quetta.

I'd suggest you the stay at Hotel Al-Naeem in Quetta .

Make the Taftan-Quetta during the daylight.

Bon voyage ..

Last year (2012) I was twice in Peshawar, in May and again in June, and did not need or use a fixer / guide.

Also staying at the Rose Hotel was an American woman, aged in her 60s, she was travelling solo and without any problems. Some weeks later I met her again in Gitgit.

The killing of the Chinese woman (and her friend) was because she was with her local Pashtun boyfriend (not a fixer). The shooting was professional and about honour. It was not a random shooting of foreign tourist.

Air Arabia have flights from Peshawar to Shiraz Iran via Sharjah UAE.

Hi, dutchiesontheroad

Start early in Bam! The iranian escorts are slowly and not very well organized. Cross the border in the evening and stay in Taftan. Pakistani officials are very friendly there, you can park in front of the custom office and use their facilities. The next day go to Dalbandin and the next day to Quetta. The biggest part of the road is in good condition. You will have police escort. Don't go off the main road.

Its still possible to make Taftan-Qutta trip but you 'd be accompanied by police escort who 'll be with you all the way to Quetta.

Stay in Bloom Star hotel, rooms ranging from 500 to 2500PKR.
