Hello everyone.
Before anything, i already read all the threads of the last year about pakistan, but i need some uptodate advise.
Me and my girlfriend (chile and argentina citizens) are visiting pakistan, we have 1 month. Actually we are in India, crossing Wagah border this saturday. We like to visit Kalash, Swat, Hunza valleys, as well as Fairy meadows (Nanga parbat BC). So the questions are:
- How safe is Kalash and Swat nowadays? What towns do you recomend the most in Kalesh and Swat? We are nature and culture lovers :)
- In Hunza, what apart of Karimabad and surroundings?
- Dresscode for my girlfriend ?, is it better to use a shalwar kameez?

Thank you in advance, hoping to explore this amazing looking
Pablo

The best place to visit pakistan are, gilgit, hunza, kalash, skardu, khaplu,
You can wear local dress, that is more comfortable ,and good for trekking
Also i recommend you to go to tarishing village and nanga parbat south face
That is more interesting place

I traveled now for one month in Gilgit - Baltistan, on my blog you can see how amazing the sceneries are...

Actually, i 'm now in Chitral, near the Kalasha valleys. Unfortunately and for me incredibly (i saw just 4 Mosquitos in the northern area) , i was infected with malaria tertiana, so the Kalasha and Swat must wait.
Here in Chitral and surroundings you get a security guard from PCO for free and if you see things positively you get a guide also for free ;) (also the locals think it's not necessary)
Enjoy your stay in Pakistan, it's unique and breathtaking.
Helmut
PS:i recommend to wear long trousers and sleeved shirts, a headscarf for your girlfriend isn't also wrong, although tourists from Lahore and Islamabad don't use this dresscode in Hunza.

Just think about what you would expect to see other people wearing follow your own rules.
Hunza is the most liberal area, but you will get more respect the more you cover up.Some places require you cover up visiting mosques. if you go to Nanga parbat, do not miss to see the south face of Nanga parbat, real gem to see it from Shigiari mountains.
people will appreciate it if you respect their culture a bit. Whilst Northern Areas is not so strict for dress code, it is advisable to wear local shalwar kameez when in villages or in cities but not while on trek. However some locals I have seen do not wear the shalwar kameez, particularly whilst shopping say in Islamabad or Lahore. l and just wear long trousers and long-sleeved loose conservsative clothing, but my advice is it is better to wear the local dress just to avoid any hassles. I never covered my hair.
