I've been reading through the posts trying to find out about getting a visa extension in Lahore, seems that posts on this topic are strangely lacking, I'm guessing maybe because of it's proximity with the border.

Whilst perusing the forums I noticed the numerous mentions of overstaying up to 2 weeks being usually acceptable (if that's the right term - maybe I should say forgiven!)

Whilst I have no intention of actually overstaying, the situation is that my Indian visa application has/is taking longer than expected and it seems pretty certain that we won't get get our passports back now until our Pakistan visas will have expired.

I requested that our passports be couriered to Lahore in order to try to speed the process up (we're cycling so it would take us 3 days to get to Lahore from Islamabad anyway) and had intended to ask for a visa extension there and hoped that we wouldn't get into too much trouble for our visas having already expired (we're assuming / hoping) by 2 or 3 days.

However, if overstaying by just a few days is usually overlooked, we could just then depart at Wagah without going throgh the hassle of extending.

Does anyone know if this has been done recently (ie this year) as most of the references seem to refer ro 2012.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Well, I did this last year, overstayed nearly 2 weeks, no problem. Be aware that the guy at the Pak immigration will try and get a bit of 'baksheesh' of you. You don't have to give him anything and eventually he will let you through, but he'll keep you waiting, so if you've got any PKrps left, give him them !

I overstayed a few days before flying out of Karachi and customs didn't even mention it.

When I was trying to extend my visa in Karachi before flying out though, I was told if I attempted to overstay without getting an extension I'd be sent back to Islamabad for an exit permit and possibly arrested. I'd say this was just some BS officialdom and scare tactics, but like everything else in Pakistan, the rules are subjective.

Like UB said, a little baksheesh might go a long way. Especially if you've only overstayed a few days.

Overstaying up to 2 weeks is no problem, no need even giving Baksheehs.

I was detained & not allowed to board my flight.
It took another week to get the Visa extended in ISB.
The Visa manager in ISB appeared to be the type who would not accept basheesh & might have you arrested for suggesting it. He likes the power more than the money!
I saw a Korean guy melt down completely ( screaming & begging), trying to get inside the office with the barred sliding doors which were shut in his face. Then the security guards took him away. I felt so sorry for the guy as he was on his 3rd or 4th visit to the Visa office.
I also had to pay an official $100 dollars for extending by Visa and the guy wrote the wrong date on the Visa causing the problem of not being allowed on my flight. The date was expired by 1 day!
Not a good experience & was on my 7th visit to the country.

Good luck to you and your friend.

My information is old and it may not be the case anymore, I had a visa extended in Lahore in 2009, the office is in a place called garden city or something similar, the man I had to see was very civilised and my interview consisted of 'you have a very full passport for someone so young' and 'what lovely hand writing you have' the extension was issued free of charge the next day. This was on a UK passport, an american lady also went that day and was told it would be $100 for her extension, given that mine was free she got extremely cross shouted at the official and was asked to leave the office her application was then denied. The moral of the story always be polite and respectful when dealing with government officials.

My Friend got stranded in Chitral due to flight cancellation a couple of years ago, she waited days but there were no flights, for some reason the lowari pass must have been closed because she ended having to go back through Shandur pass to Gilgit. couldn't get a flight from there and had to bus down the KKH to Islamabad and onto Lahore. By the time she got to Wagah border she was a week over, had a letter from PIA and was ready to go into battle. They didn't even notice the overstay.

We were turned away and told to go to immigration and get our visas renewed. We were told that the pasport office where we needed to apply was in Abbott Road but when we got there the following morning they told us they don't deal with visa extensions and sent us to

4-A, Sher Shah Block, Behind Barkat Market Near Himayat-ul-Islam Girls College, New Garden Town.

The guys there were super super nice and didn't charge for an extension and processed it the same day when we said we were in a rush. We needed to complete a form, 1 passport photo, copy of the details page of our passport and copy of our visa.

Going back to the border today to try again!
