Karakoram vs Pamir Highway scenery | Pakistan - Lonely Planet Forum

I would be interested in hearing from travellers out there who have travelled on both the Karakoram Highway and the Pamir Highways.

I undertook the Karakoram (KKH) journey two months ago which I found stunning and spectacular and am wondering if the Pamir Highway is equally spectacular. While on the journey I met a few people who had done both and when asked they said that the Pamir Highway has similar landscapes to the section of the KKH around Karakul Lake, Tashkuragan and the Khunjerab pass (the eastern Pamirs) although the mountains of the KKH around Pasu to Hunza are more dramatic.

I would be interested in hearing opinions on which is more spectacular?

I cycled this year from Dushanbe/Tajikistan over Khorog, through the Wakhan valley on the Pamir Highplateau and then the Pamir Highway from Alichur to Kyrgyzstan.
After that, all the KKH from Kashgar to Gilgit and spend 1 month exploring Gilgit-Baltistan.
IMHO Gilgit-Baltistan ist the most amazing, spectacular landscape you can see on earth.
The Pamir itself is a place you should see but for me it can't compete with the northern area in Pakistan.
BTW the Pamir plateau in Tajikistan is different from the chinese part of KKH.
The landscape on the plateau looks like on the moon, nearly no plants there...

I went the Pamir Highway and KKH by car. Pamir Highway is very beautiful but the best is KKH, so do not miss the KKH!
