I know people can only guess, but in light of the recent killings of tourists, what do you think?

just on a personal recommendation - i'd say yes, this is fine. both cities have a lot of security and lahore is particular is a large and busy asian city - the risk of being caught in something is low. both cities have seen attacks, but on a lower level than elsewhere. they are also home to a number of foreign workers who are visibly out and about. try to avoid sufi shrines and mosques during friday prayers - targets in the past - and just keep your eyes open. you can never predict these things so advice is to play things by ear, leave an area if you feel unsafe, and ask locals what they advise. you're coming to two of the safest cities in the country though so you should have a safe trip.

Nobody knows. Nobody else can make that call except you, Ian.

I essentially agree with beck, but given that Tehrik e Taliban are claiming that they've set up a branch to specifically target foreigners, I'd watch the news closely. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-23027031 Luckily, you aren't planning on being in Pakistan until October, and unless incidents like what has so unfortunately recently happened increase, Islamabad and Lahore should OK to visit.

I admire the honesty, k2_heights. Much needed.

I read another post here tonight claiming an area is "100% safe".
