Hi,

maybe I will go to Pakistan in November for one week. I will come to Islamabad, planing to see also Muree, Nathia gali and Peshawar. My guide will be from Peshawar.
I am a woman from Europe and I am vegetarian. I dont eat meet and fish. Can this be problem in Pakistan?
I read something about dress code for woman in topics of Pakistan.... I understand I need to wear long sleeves and long jeans or trousers. But what about the scarf? I must wear it urgently? What if I dont wear it? I saw some photos of tourist woman and I saw they dont wear the scarf.

Hey,

You shouldn't have too much problems as far as meat but don't be surprised if everything on the menu is meat based. You can find fish menus but it is advised to not eat "fresh fish" in the middle of the desert lol. If you can eat fish within 150 miles of the ocean, it will most likely be fresh, depending on your standard of what fresh is...

I would highly recommend wearing modest clothing, especially legs and your head scarf. Generally you don't have to, but you will get brownie points if you at least try to adhere to some of the dress codes. As far as that pic concerning a western woman not wearing her scarf, you have to consider that either she doesn't give a dang out their cultural sensitivity, naive or in an area where there is so many tourists that the local culture doesn't care. Do as the Romans do, if you are in an area where it seems like everyone including western women are wearing the scarf then I would say yeah put one one.

If you don't wear a scarf in the right area, be prepared for some people to judge you, not everyone but some. Sometimes the kids don't know any better and assume that you are insulting their religion and culture by walking around without one.....don't be surprised if you get a random stone thrown towards you or someone sticking the sole of their feet towards you. On that note, have fun and enjoy yourself, and be prepared to wear a scarf. At least you'really not going to some of the other hard line Muslim countries, it's mandatory in some cases

Yes but .. a scarf is good and useful .. especially if you're blond in a dark haired country..A scarf could protect your head from the sun , protect your mouth from the dust , could too cover your shoulders and chest even lightly as these two parts of the female body are rarely shown in India subcontinent.. All in one, lighter than a hat and a jacket ...

Having travelled extensively in Pak, I might say that apart from top end restos (or street stalls) veggy food is not that common in Pak., unless you can survive on dall+roti . I would also say that Murree + Nathie Galle in Nov will be cold and probably wet and exploring the streets of Peshawar without being fully covered would be foolhardy, at best. Get a headscarf and use it !!

How much body must be covered(no bare arms or legs) & about your feet(sandals & bare toes re ok).

Head scarf is must when you re visiting mosques otherwise no problem.

Act more conservatively in order to avoid unwanted attention then you might at home, giving certain freedom in exchange for an enhance of safety.

In Pakistani culture drinking beer or smoking could put you in the sexually available category so keep that in mind.

As far as veg food is concern,we don't have much varieties of vegetarian food in Pakistan as compare to India but can always get veg food.

My partner, is white, western and blond, we travelled in Mansehra and Abbotabad and she did not use her dupatta/scarf at anytime and there was no problem at all. Only time I recall she used it was visiting Faysal Mosque in Islamabad. So don't worry too much about scarf, wear if you want don't if you don't want to but always do wear when attending a mosque. I would say have a shalwar kameez available but wear anything that covers up arms, legs and body, that's it. I am not vegetarian but my impression after many times is vegetarians from the west are not well catered for other than in top end restuarants

Your guide should advise you on what is appropriate. Have you not already received some advice on what to pack?

In Peshawar, if nowhere else, I think it would be very wise to dress modestly (covering your arms, and wearing an upper layer that extends to cover your hips) and to wear a head scarf, even if only loosely over your hair.
