Hello,:D I am a 20 year old female American going to Rawalpindi Oct 13 for a week. I know this question have been asked soooo many times before, but I want to hear (or read) the answer to my situation specificly since everyone who travels there got their different agendas when they travel. So for my situation im going alone and mainly for shopping and eating and some sightseeing. How safe would it be for me? I know to dress conservativly, so im not worried about being female. Im more worried that being American might be a problem. Also is there any health risk I should know about before I go like malaria or something? And last question is where should I stay in rawalpindi? Im looking for a cheap hotel. All I need is a clean bed and a clean bathroom since im on a university students budget and will be outside most of the time but I dont want to stay in a Hostel. Any input on any of these 3 questions will be appreciated!!!!

I am American and recently spent 2 weeks in Pakistan, including 2 days in Islamabad. I did travel alone, but I am male. Like you, I was nervous traveling in Pakistan as an American. I ended up loving Pakistan and will definitely return. It might not be safest place in the world, but haven been there myself now, I think our media exaggerates the dangers a bit. Also, I met some extremely nice and helpful people.

Pretty safe places Rawalpindi/Islamabad follow the usual , dont stay out too late and all , keep a anti mosquito repellent , drink bottled water, bargain with everyone, try to have a local male chaperone with you will come in handy, look for private guest houses online in Islamabad they are clean and cheap cant recall any name now , pc Rawalpindi will cost u approx 120 dollars per night but its good, try to stay with your friend. just cover your head with a scarf you will be fine.

@Sureshsamuel- Of course I asked my friend. But I posted on a travelers site so that I can get the views from other foreign travelers

@Lenoxhill- Thanx for the input!!! What hotel did you stay in when you was in Islamabad?

@Aam04- Thanx for all the advice!!! Im worried that misquito repellent wont keep them away. I go to university in thailand and no matter if I use the lotion repellents, the fans that fit in your pocket or some witch like potion the local pharmacy make I still get bit. So is malaria a great risk there? or as long as im in the city ill be ok?

Kamran hotel on Kashmir road is 1000 Rs for single,1200 Rs for double and they rooms for 1500 Rs as well.

Al Azam is 500 Rs for single 700 Rs for double.

Malaria does exist so make sure to bring repellent or even anti malarial pills.
