Can anyone recommend guide, guide-portners or portners for EBC and/or Annapurna treks? I've done general research and it sounds like just asking the right questions will set you up with good people, but would like to hear recommendations for guides/portner people had a good experience with.

Also, I'd like to hear recommendations with hiring a guide vs a guide/porter. Pro? Cons?

ANy help would be much appreciated. I willl be in India for 6 months on my 6months tourist visa (im a UK citizen) i wil need to leav the country to renew the visa, has anyone any experiences of doing this in Nepal, is it easy? Are there any restrictions?

Last time i re-newed my visa in thailand and this was easy enough i just fancied Nepal this time.

I've just come back from trekking in Borneo, and friends talked about Annapurna base camp. The best antidote for coming-home-from-trip-depression is to plan the next one!

So, I confess I've done no homework whatsoever but can anyone tell me their experience? I'd probably go there by myself, so what's the best way to find a group or should I just do it with someone like Intrepid? Approximate costs? Good time of year to go? If I organise it there, any recommendations on guides and the like?

I plan to go to Kathmandu before the 18th Aug as my visa expires. How is the situation at the Sunali border crossing? If anybody has been there recently please get in contact. I plan to go by bus all the way. Have the floods affected the area, is it safe...ish??

Hi, I´ve had our flights to Delhi fixed but Im having trouble booking Delhi-Kathmandu flights online: Cosmic Air does not have a proper online booking system, Indian airlines´ booking system only lists cities within India, Jet Airways does not allow online booking for Kathmandu, JetLite does not accept international credit cards at the moment, and NONE of these reply to my e-mails... how the hell am I supposed to get a flight?

My trip to Tibet has been cancelled so I suddenly have about extra 8 days to enjoy around Kathmandu. What would you recommend to see in Kathmandu Valley, besides the usual (Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath Bhaktapur, Patan...)? My guidebook recommends Gorakhnath caves near Pharping and Vajra Jogini Temple. Has anyone been there?

This is just a heads up for those planning on a trip to Nepal and then onwards to Tibet. Due to Tibetan protests on the border, the Chinese embassy will no longer issue visas for the road to Tibet. Our Kailash trek is now pushed back until next week. They might start issuing them by next Monday, August 13th, but it is still not certain. Supposedly, flying to Lhasa is still possible.
