We are going to be in India over Christmas and are considering adding on a little side trip to Nepal, flying up from Varanasi to Kathmandu and back from there to Delhi. Is it worthwhile only spending 2 or 3 days in Kathmandu? Is the city worth going to for its own sake and are there are day trips / short walks from the city that the weather in December would permit? And has anyone been in December that could comment on the wearther?

Thanks in advance

there is plenty to see in an around kathmandu that can keep you busy for some weeks. making a 2-3 day trip only for me is a waste of time...

There is certainly a lot to see, and you can do a lot in three days. Whether it is "worth it" is a question for you to decide.

I Did Exactly the self same thing earlier this year (Well apart from that I flew from Delhi) and I would say Very Worth While !!
Loads to see and do in and around Kathmandu – You won’t be disappointed !!
If you like you can take a look at my

And see some ideas of what to see where to eat and stay

I'd prefer to spend 2-3 days in Katmandu than 2-3 days in Varanassi..... Go for it, lots of nice towns in KTM valley
