Hi!
I will be traveling around Nepal for a few months this fall and winter and I don't know what type of shoes to bring. I plan on wearing sandals around town but I also might be doing a little trekking and lots of walking. I don't really want to carry big boots around with me unless they are absolutely necessary. I also don't want anything too flashy. Can I get away with a low boot if I'm trekking with 15-20 lbs? Does it need to be waterproof? What type of shoes have worked well for you?
Thank you so much for any advice you might have!
Kaitee

It all depends on who you are. good feet, great ankles, etc.. sure you might get by with runners. But i would not really recommend it as you really should some grip on the shoes. Try an approach shoe if you have some choice....maybe like this:

Approach shoes

Hi Kaitee,

Whenever I've gone to the sub-continent, I always take 2 pairs of footwear.

1) a pair of sandals that give good grip and,
2) a good pair of boots for general trekking/hiking/distance walking.

You never know when you'll require a pair of sturdy boots & you can't always get the ones you want overseas. Better safe than sorry in this case.

Cheers

I have trekked the full AC 3 times and 42 day Khumbu trek (up to 6000m) with jogging shoes. I would not bother to take anything heavier than trail runners (running shoes with good grip & bit stiffer sole).
