Yes, people hiked up to the temple at the top before the cable car and still do presumably. Matathirti is a close village accessible by road. Thankot is near to the bottom of the cable car. There will be other possible start points.
Thanks I was a bit on the fence about Nepal but have locked it in now. Any suggestions for accessible adventures are appreciated. Wondering if there are any direct flights in and out of an interesting off-the-beaten path trekking destination? Have been to Lukla a number of times. Jomsom would be interesting, haven't been there since 04, but seems would lose two days in getting to Pokahar first as flights are first thing in the morning (and not direct from KTM).

Greetings!
Travelinbri you can start your hike from Pharping and reach Chitlang village/overnight (enroute falls different buddhist and hindu pilgrimage site as mentioned above). Next day hike to Chandragiri hills and bhaleswor temple then hike down to thankot or use chandragiri cable car.
I also love hiking/trekking but have not done that hiking route yet though is a resident of Kathmandu. If you don't mind would love to join you in such short hikes when you are in Kathamndu that its always great to have some good company to have some chit-chat, learn their experiences, meets up and cultural exchanges. And will also have advantage for me that I'm pushing myself in tourism.
If you are interested please feel free to drop me a message.
Cheers !
So I am currently looking at a few different hikes including Champadevi and Chandragiri; any suggestions from people who have done both of these?
