I just wanted to say you are right in your decision to go directly to a charity rather than via a profit making conmpany ... I made the mistake of going through an organisation when I volunteered in Ghana & the money I paid them should have gone to the charity not their pockets especially when they did nothing to help with any issues. Good luck - really explore what the charity is all about & exactly what you will be doingare the main tips i can give you.

I have been involved with several different places over the years The last three years I have been supporting a disabled childrens home which is not far from Pashupatinath at Baniswor Heights close to Maiti Devi.

The work with these organisations mainly consits of supporting the children, playing with them, helping with their homework, assiting on outings and generally giving of yourself wherever you might find appropriate.

Thank your enthusiasm to support children in Nepal.
I'm a public health professional b ased in Kathmandu and regular trekker in the Langtang region where I work with my friends to improve health of the local people. We do small projects and assist Langtang people to get medical care in hospitals of Kathmandu.

If you wish to support Langtang children, just let me know. Upon you rinterest, I will arrange a trek to Langtang or get you to meet the children and make support directly.

I was with a good co based in Kathmandy nearly 2 yrs ago . I can really recomend them . They do work with childrens orphanages and assosiated work like teaching and Healthcare . The name is VSN 9volunteer serices Nepal0 . They are linked to a larger group called GVN FRO nEW zEALAND . volunteer .nz or google should find it . The web site is superb so wont bother explaining anything . Their prices are still a fair price cheaper than most on the net. VSN is a fairly small organisation even though linked to gvn. They are all a small friendly team which provide good support, for the volunteers.
I suppose with all such organisations the bigger it is more money is spent on organisation and advertising. (One with good eyes) rather than where its needed . But if you go it alone there is also problems with owners of orphanages siphing off the money for themselves . It goes on alot here in Kathmandu , with owners having nice new tvs and cars ,but the kids struggling to get a decent diet . So WATH OUT . This co I can onestly say they have their heart in the right place . Here back in Nepal at the moment doing some treking soon , I did not get a chance to do first time in Nepal

Hi,
I just came back from my second trip to Nepal this year, this time doing volunteer work with disabled children.
Both times I volunteered in Nepal, I organized everything myself which has worked out very well. This way, I didn't have to pay anything to any organization. I would just search for schools, orphanages or the likes online and contact them directly.
Most places in Nepal are very happy to have volunteers work with them and will invite you with open arms.
