Visiting Western Nepal

You don't have to go all the way to the far west of Nepal to get off the tourist trail . There are no particular activities in far western Nepal apart from trekking and sight seeing although some people go to visit Royal Bardia National Park. But Western Nepal is big area if you could be more specific about where you might be more interested in going it would be easier to give tips.

You can trek without an expensive trekking permit, most of Western Nepal, including Khaptad NP and Jumla Lake Rara, is not restricted.

I highly recommend Bardia National Park. I spent 4 days there and I could have spent a lot more time. The surrounding villages are also interesting to explore and they see few tourists. Good suggestions above by poster # 2.

And also the early part of the Annapurna / Jomsom Trek which is now bypassed by the road is not so touristy. Villages such as Naudadanda and Chandrakot have great views and are not visited by so many trekkers anymore because most choose to take the road .

Thanks - will look at Bardia too. We're also considering visiting Chainpur in the North-east, but need to do a little more research to see what's feasible.

Will take a look at Naudadanda and Chandrakot - sounds like they might suit the kind of areas we're looking for.

Naudanda and Chandrakot are not in western Nepal. They are between Pokhara and Nayapul/Birethanti, on the Baglung highway.

Western Nepal includes Pokhara , its a big area.
