Hi Guys

I'm looking into visas for my upcoming RTW trip. The consulate here in OZ can issue the visa for me before I leave costing $86.00AUS, but I here that it is $30US if you get one at the border (I will be travelling overland from Delhi). I have to go and arrange my other visas in person due to the 6 month validity of the visa and flying out shortly so it wouldn't be a hassle to arrange before I go. Should I wait till I get there or will it be a hassle to get one at the border?

Thanks

Saves 40 bucks. Are the term lengths the same? Go for it. Don't forget a picture..

They don't issue visas at the Indian border and they won't let you on the plane if you don't have one.

BTW That's AUD86 plus AUD10 Local Fee plus AUD50 for the courier if you use the consultant. If you're in Melbourne, its worth popping out to Coburg to the consulate just to start to get a vibe for Indian bureaucracy. Please note that they absolutely will not accept forms downloded from the Internet, you must have an itinerary printed out by your agent and it takes 7 working days. They are only open in the mornings.

I am guessing that the OP posted this under Nepal without realizing that it comes up in the general South Asia listing without any direct indication of the country. My guess refers to the price and mention of overland from Delhi. This is an unfortunate consequence of recent improvements on the site. Maybe, the programming boys could attach a label to hint of this. Good to see yah, Yarra.!

Hi Jess,

As Yarra says, no visa, no boarding at Tullamarine.

The consulate at Coburg have short working hours (around 9am => 1pm). Get there early, otherwise, you can expect a long wait.

Also, if you hand over money, make sure you get a receipt. I asked a friend of mine to take in an application form on my behalf, and the money was paid over, but they said that they were too busy to issue a receipt at that stage.

Lots of phone calls later; lots of stress for me; my friend had to re-attend the consulate and finally, they acknowledged that they had received the money and were in the wrong for not issuing a receipt.

It's a lot less hassle for your travel agent to do the paperwork for you - it may cost a few $ more, but believe me, it's worth it for the reduction in stressing about where your passport and visa are.

Where's the ungrateful OP to let us in on the mystery of which bloody country is he/she/it is referring to? I have money on this bet..

Ahhh... re-reading this, the OP may have an Indian visa but wants to get her/his Nepali visa at the border. But AU$86 sounds like a lot for a Nepali visa.

And Ed, (s)he only logged the message yesterday - give her/him a chance to come back before calling the OP "ungrateful" ;-)

There's a lot more ungrateful people to whom many messages /responses are made and you never hear back from them with a comment of thanks.

Cheers

So true but I hoped my earlier comment would "smoke 'em out"..

The info on the Nepal Visa website for Australia, states that the visa cost is AU$70 for a 60 day visa, but if issued 'on the spot' it is $86.
But as this person seems to be travelling from Delhi overland, then he / she should get it at the border, US$30 plus a photo or two.
