Hi Im going to Upper Mustang in November 2017 and I need a 2nd person or a couple who are intending to go in November. The reason I need help is because the Nepalese government has a law that requires more than one person to apply in order to obtain a permit for Upper Mustang. If I apply alone then no permit is given. A permit costs $500. I have an excellent guide and the date we commence will be 15h November and it is a 10 or 11 day tour. The 10th day will hopefully be flying down to Pokhara early and driving straight back to Kathmandu. For the trek itself, after the short flight we will walk up to Lomanthang and maybe get as far as the Tibetan border, and then we will to get shared vehicles on the way down so as to come down faster. I will be in Kathmandu on November 13th. If someone is there earlier and wants to meet my guide and get the permit then this can be arranged. You do not have to travel with us if you prefer your own guide and to go on your own. We just require someone to get the permit. But if you prefer to come with us because you are alone or maybe a couple who feel uncertain and want some company along the way then let me know. And my guide can help you if you need a porter. I was at Everest base camp in December 2016 and so was my guide. This trek won't go as high as that trek. I think its about 3000-3500 metres and its not so tough. My main reason for going is to meet the Tibetan people and witness some of the Bon traditions as we move along the trek. Ok best wishes and I hope to hear from you.
Hi Steve,
In case you can find nobody to go trekking with. I have in the past just asked someone in the guesthouse I was staying at to lend me their passport for the day while I applied for a trekking permit. Worked just fine but obviously, you need someone that's willing to trust you not to run off!

Hi Eric, thanks for your reply...I considered this as well but I think the permit is $500 for each person who goes which means a minimum of $1000 paid to get the permit, though now you mention this I must go and check that. But at the moment its my feeling that the person also needs to be going or else I would need borrow the passport and pay the 500 for the 2nd person as well as my own 500 for me, if they are not going to go as well. But thanks mate

Such 'ghosting' is reported to work for some restricted area treks (Manaslu say) but Upper Mustang is reported to be stricter so hee is a risk you will be turned away. That would be an expensive disappointment.

Hi Steve,
My Plan B at the moment would probably involve Mustang at about the right date . I arrive in Ktm at the end of October , and would plan to add more trekking before and after Mustang. I also have a good guide that I have worked with 3 times before, so we can be as independent as we choose (or as we can get away with!) . I usually trek with just my guide, but we are running out of places where permits are not a problem. Last year I did Ganesh Himal , and then took a friend to EBC and Gokyo. I have completed at least 16 treks in Nepal.Time is not an issue for me , so I might be trekking more slowly than appears to be your plan.
I hope that we might be able to help each other?
Andrew

Hello Steve and Andrew,
Are either of you still looking for a trek partner for Upper Mustang?, I would ideally like to do both Upper and Lower Mustang with interesting side trips. Have trekked in Nepal previously, Nov would suit me depending on flight costs as nothing confirmed yet.
