Hey,

it's been a few years since I did the EBC trek and I wanted to go there again next year and do the 3 passes. I don't want to fly to Lukla however for cost reasons but I'm also a bit limited by time since I will be there on a 30-day visa.

How far does the road go now? I've seen that it's possible to take regular busses to Salleri now and from there it should be 3 days to Namche, is that correct? Or do the busses go even farther these days?

If anyone has more information on the busses, I would much appreciate it (like price, travel time, starting point).

Thank you!

It has recently been discussed extensively in https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/forums/asia-indian-subcontinent/nepal/solu-khumbu-roads?page=1. Salleri to NB in 3 days, impossible. 4 days is already tough.

Thank you @willemspie ! I did read that thread but forgot about it. So Salleri is still as far as the busses go?

I did Lukla -- Namche in 1 day back then, so I will calculate with 4 days from Salleri to Namche.

Actually 4 days is possible if you take a jeep to Ringmo and start walking there, otherwise it is better to count 5 days.

Since cost is the bigger factor this time, I will skip the jeep and rather walk an extra day :) Thank you @willemspie!

How many days would you think it takes back to Salleri from Namche (last time I walked Namche to Lukla also in one day quite easily).

Not much less than the way in, because you also have some tough climbing on the way back.

There are now jeeps going via Basa from Salleri and up the Dudh Khosi to about 2-2.5 hours from Jubling. Its appears a slow ride, I walked as I often stop in Basa village for a night or two. You would not get a jeep out of Salleri the same day you arrive from Kathmandu I expect and the next day you maybe limited to getting in a few hours only after reaching the end of the jeep road. I walked from a village before the jeeps last stop to Bupsa, Surke, Monjo, Namche in pretty easy days. Not sure if it helps a lot but doing bit longer days could get you to Namche in four days from Salleri without super big days walking.

I would say 4 days Salleri - Namche is perfectly reasonable for a fit trekker, and 3 days back is certainly possible. Some years ago my wife and I walked Namche - Surkie - Nuntala - Jumbesi in 3 days, going to Salleri instead would not be much longer. Surkie - Nuntala was a double day, but we were very fit by then (had done Manaslu - NaarPho - AC - ABC already before going to Khumbu). I would also be possible to divide the distance more evenly.
