Hello,

I (female) will be trekking with a friend (male) in June and read recently that it would be most appropriate if I wore a skirt. Is this true? Can I get away with wearing pants/long-ish shorts?

Thanks so much for any advice.
Ruth

I am not sure where you read this, but it definitely makes little sense.

Please wear pants. No one will object to it.

No problems wearing long pants. Just about everyone does. Forget the shorts.

no shorts, long, preferably loose, pants are OK.

I'd agree... no shorts...

long pants or long"ish" capris work well....

be sure, the leeches will love you if you where a skirt.

ha, agree with you bodh. just returned from trekking in nepal and got absolutely attacked by the leeches! long pants are the way to go, and carry with you a big container of salt. we also found that dousing our shoes in dettol helped too. and scissors to cut them in half...believe me, you dont feel bad doing it, they are awful! definitely dont wear a skirt though, very impractical.

Many female trekkers on the other hand find skirts very practical, as on many trails it is difficult to hide when nature calls.

Trekking & travell skirt is something my wife and many of our friends use.

It is true that during the leech season it is not as nice.

I did pants, long capris, and a skirt. All had their benefits. Skirts were great with a pair of long undies underneath....very comfortable hanging out in teahouse or looking around different villages. Women were much more welcoming than when wearing pants. When above the treeline, it was much easier to go to the bathroom in a skirt. Of course, the 3 times I got caught with my 'pants' down, I wasn't wearing my skirt. On the other hand, it windy conditions skirt is much more difficult. To each their own. But please, no shorts!

Wow, I'm glad I asked. The Lonely Planet Trekking in Nepal book recommended wearing a skirt, but I was skeptical. This may be a dumb question, but why no shorts? Inappropriate in villages? The leeches? I'm trekking in June when I expect that it will be hot.

Thanks for all the responses.
