Hi you guys

So, I am entering Nepal on 3rd Nov and exiting it on 9th Dec. I was looking at prices for tourist visas and it looks like getting a 30-day visa and extending it for the 8 days I'd be overstaying it would be substantially cheaper than paying for a 90-day visa from the start. The problem I have is that I will be back in Kathmandu after trekking on 4th Dec so my visa will have expired by the time I get back but only by 3 days. Question: how complicated is it to get an extension for a few days AFTER a visa has expired BUT while still in Kathmandu. Is it worth it in terms of time wasted in government buildings? I know that there would be fines to be paid per day but even with those it seems to me that the math would be still on my side, although I am factoring in 'time wasted' with lines, photos, photocopies, long forms, etc etc as currency at this point. Has anyone gone through the paces of getting a visa extension while still in Kathmandu? How is the process? Many thanks to all!!

Really?

Option 1:
30 Days Visa – 40 USD

Plus: 8 days overstay at $5 per day ($3 fine and $2 extension) - $40.
Total $80 and hassle.

Option 2:
90 Days Visa – 100 USD

Option 3:
Or, get your extension before you go trekking. $30 will buy you 15 days - so, total cost $70.

Why would you overstay?

Is it possible to get a visa extension added to the standard 30 day visa that's available at arrivals in KTM airport? So that you leave arrivals with a 6 week permit?

No visa extensions are available upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport (KTM).

If you are departing and have a few days overstay, this can however be taken care of at KTM airport. Calculate time to arrange this, and if more than a week go to the main Immigration Office in Kathmandu.

Well, a 2 week extension sounds good, particularly if available before heading out to trek. Where would this be available from?

Department of Immigration. Explained in this post.

Question: The fees for tourist visas at the airport are best paid for with USD cash?

Yes, or any other major currency.
