Does anyone know approximate costs of sending parcel by sea mail from Nepal to the USA? For example, how much is 2 kgs? If you don't know USA, how much is Europe? If you don't have any exact figures, how does it compare to India post prices when sending abroad abroad? Basically, what I am asking is, it is cheap?
Thanks,
Hal Fischer

There is no Nepal post to speak of. If you want to get a parcel to USA / Europe it's very expensive, and you'd use DHL etc. I was quoted over thirty dollars to get a letter to Dublin, Ireland.
I sent a parcel from Bangkok to Ireland for approx. $60 USD, the same size parcel was quoted $180 USD from Nepal.

There is an alternative to DHL and FedEx (which are so expensive) and that is air freight. I sent 11 kilos of books via air freight at a reasonable cost ($30 I think). It arrived after 4 days at my local airport. The downside is that you have to go to your local airport to pick up the package and may be charged an airport fee (depends on your airport; at mine it cost about $20). I didn't pay customs as the company wrote on the invoice that the books were samples. I arranged this through the bookstore where I bought the books (Mandala) but I think it could be done in KTM by just taking a drive out to the airport. The package flies out on one of the international flights (mine came via Thai and SAS).

Don't know how that compares to India...
