Hi all,

I am planning some solo travelling for the month of July and initially wanted to go to Nepal. However I am now unsure as I remembered thats the peak of Monsoon season; does anyone know what its like there at that time? I've never been...

I'm thinking of doing some volunteering (probably through WWOOF or on a yoga retreat/at an eco centre) and some trekking. Does anyone know of any good eco centres that also offer yoga or visa versa? Or recommend the best region to go trekking? A long one for 3-10 days?

Any other suggestions of what to do in Nepal are welcomed!

Thank you,

Chloe

Personally I'd go to Ladakh (India) in July if you are interested in trekking and enjoying good weather in South Asia. In Nepal, treks like Upper Mustang are in the 'rain shadow' so are less wet than others but there is a pricy restricted area permit fee on that trek.

Thank you! Have you been before? I've heard its meant to be very beautiful but can be busy and more pricey than other region. Would you say this is true? Do you know the best way to get there?

I've spent a lot of time in Ladakh, though it's been about 5 years now since I was last there. The camping treks would be a bit more pricey than teahouse treks in Nepal but a homestay trek like Markha Valley would be about the same if not cheaper than Nepal. Homestays on the Markha Valley are charging 1200 INR for food and lodging so pretty comparable to Teahouses in Nepal though Ladakh homestays are more rustic. Jeep transportation is pretty pricey. But you can get a lot of places by local bus too if you have the time. And yes Leh gets pretty crowded with tourists in Leh during the summer but if you choose you can go Zanskar or other areas that are far less crowded.

Marpha to Muktinath (lower Mustang) is in the rainshadow and doesn't require expensive permit or guides. Much to see including also Kagbeni, Jharkot, Dzong, etc.
