Is it possible to ride a motorbike from Katmandu to Lhasa via the Friendship highway, if you were to have a chinese visa, appropriate permit for Tibet and some sort of papers as proof of ownership of the bike.
Do you need a chinese drivers license, if so how on earth would you get one? Eg. who would you bribe for such a thing.
If possible at all, is the side trip to Everest base camp possible by motorbike?
thankyou in anticipation of your wisdom....

Hey,
When I was in KTM recently i was told the only way to get into Lhasa is through a tourist package. Not sure if you have already considered/checked that out, but thought I should let you know.

Get yourself an International Driving Licence in OZ. They are cheap and best to have for nepal also. It will potentially save you a lot of hassle. Take care, Tommy

I think is is possible in theory, but as you have to have a liason officer with you if you have your own vehicle, riding a motorbike would mean a convoy system with support vehicle. And still I think Tibet would not be possible. In any case riding your own bike there means a lot of red tape, connections, tons of money etc, and apperently also the bikes would have to registered in China and chinese DL:s fror rides...
