This thread is about Khumbu/Sagarmāthā (as noted in the title) and TIMS is no longer required, available for purchase or controlled in this area. That is the situation today and thus users share it, how it is next week no one knows.
So. what is the advice for those starting the EBC trek in the next week? Where should we go for the latest info when arriving in the country? I am certainly NOT going to pay whatever fees to whomever asks for them, willy nilly. Had to do that once in Bolivia and the confrontation with a corrupt border control officer has left a lasting bad taste in my mouth. Never again!
Any news on the additional 2000 rupees to be paid for trekking in the Khumbu region that is supposedly paid at the airport in Lukla? Some people posted articles from newspapers here in the forum about it and I'd like to know if anyone out there has been to Lukla in the last few days and had to do it. Many thanks!!
At the NTB in Kathmandu, they still deliver Tims for Everest but they promise to refund it if you have to pay the local tax on top of it and you come back after the trek with the receipt/'permit' of the local tax.
:) Having to return to any gov office after the trek will most probably mean bureaucracy and time wasted! Thanks for the info, willemspie!:)
