Hello everybody. We are two people planning to visit Nepal in January. We will be entering through Kakarbhitta and from there we hope to go directly to Salleri (by bus/jeep) to hike up to the Everest region. Is there anybody who has done it and who could give us any suggestions on transport other than go to Kathmandu first and travel to Salleri from Kathmandu?

Anyway you would need to go most of the way back to Kathmandu by the Sindhuli highway, till the road junction to Salleri midway on the Sindhuli HW. Also there the Ktm - Salleri 4WDs will arrive already full.
Another option would be to go to Tumlingtar by bus (from Dharan) and trek Tumlingtar Lukla.

Thanks for reply! Well, you are probably right with the 4WD being already full anyways. I was wondering if locals would have some regular transport to those places which we could get, but that is probably hard to know.

Well yes there certainly will be some transport but it may be slow and unconfortable.

You are right. Probably better to get to Kathmandu first. I have done some research on buses from Kakarbhitta but still its worth to ask another person - do you have any experience about direct buses from there to Kathmandu, schedules and prices?

There are many busses in the afteenoon evening.
There are also minibusses and these go via the Sindhuli Highway.

Really? That is a valuable info. All I could get until now was that buses were mostly leaving very early in the morning. So if one leaves at the evening, the arrival to Kathmandu can be expected in the morning next day, right?
