I heard a lot of snow in Khumbu area too.
How is the EBC trekking condition now, any block due to snow?
How about Lukla airport condition, open or closed?

Thanks in advance

By searching Instagram (location) and Twitter for keywords such as Namche, Lukla etc. you can find updates from people currently on the trail or waiting for a flight. Or you could just call a village lodge.

Photos or blog posts will give you an idea of the weather conditions. You have to be clever in your research and filtering, but there are plenty of trekkers and locals up there sharing.

Looks like regular snowfall the last week.

Remember no trail "closes", it’s just harder (and less safe) to walk in snow.

Once the climbing season starts in a few weeks, there will be regular weather and status updates via all the teams up in Khumbu; alanarnette.com/blog/everest

Thanks for the time Karl!
Actually I already searched fb, twi, web, etc before I posted the above questions but no luck.
And I found that Thorolng La (for Annapurna Circuit) is currently closed due to heavy snow fall, and the Nepalese polices/army in Chame have been dispatched out to timang-manang because to open a road.

I will keep an eye on it though.
Thank you

Bueno, if you’re hesitating about leaving for Khumbu now; just get going.

Once you’re up in the valley you will have plenty of people to give you updates, both other trekkers, locals and lodge owners. Weather reports are fairly useless for this region, as there are few native data points and conditions are local and variable.

When the sun comes out, the snow melts surprisingly fast. Tracks are quickly made by both humans and animals. Bring some microspikes (or buy them in Namche).

Up there when the sun gets shining snow disappears in a flash. Once we had about 15 cm of fresh snow starting from Phortse (magnificent views, by the way) and all had disappeared before we were in Pangpoche few hours later. On the way back, while in Tengpoche, some 30-40 cm of snow fell in the afternoon and during the night, but there already was a decent trail toward Namche in the morning, and when we reached Namche there was no snow left. Snow does not even melt, it just sublimates straight into the air.

And sometimes you get interesting snow formations.
Here you can see how the strong sun eats the snow from south (in December).
