I am looking for comments on GSE - Grape Seed Extract vs Iodine for water purification in Nepal?
Anyone with experiences using GSE - pros, cons, and what dosages are best for Nepal?
Looking forward to all your replies!
Thanks!

Grape Seed Extract
pro - contains antioxidants
con - doesn't purify water
dosage - as on the label
Iodine
pro - kills all viruses and bacteria, is cheap
con - bad taste and unhealthy for the liver over time
dose - 2 drop per liter

Correction - that should be Grapefruit Seed Extract not grape seed extract.
All the information I have read shows that GSE is highly effective for water purification and also against many viruses and bacteria.
Any more comments please let me know
Thanks!

The GSE liquid (which I recommend) comes with directions.
Last year someone posted that they put one or two drops in their drink if it seems "dodgy" - to quote them.
If I have contracted a bad bacterium, I start out with 5 or 6 drops in a glass of water - and this usually knocks it out very quickly. The instructions say you can use 5 to 15 drops 2-3 times daily. Children 5 yrs and older can take 1 to 6 drops 2-3 times daily.
I also soak my toothbrush in a glass with 10 drops when traveling.
I've never had Giardia, but acquaintances who have lived in KTM for many years say it will get rid of it (I don't know what dosage they take). I found out about this product through them.
I lived there in Nepal for five months, drank from local taps / water pumps / rivers, never had a problem........

Grapefruit Seed Extract is well known as the miracle elixer. Another side benefit is it will prevent malaria. Add some mercury and you will be able to regrow amputated limbs.

I don't think I answered the most important part of your question -
I don't use GSE to purify untreated water. I use it if I have contracted a "bug" or put it in my drink when I eat street foods where I grew up in Mexico, for example.
Iodine might be fine for trekking, but KTM tap water may have heavy metals (carpet industry) and toxic chemicals besides bacteria, etc.

Thanks for your comments.
I found this interesting link about water purification by various methods - iodine, filter, GSE etc.
water purification
Still some conflicting information about GSE and would like to hear from more people about their experience with this method.
Thank you so much!
