I want to trek from Lukla to Gokyo in October 2018, and spend 3 or 4 days based in Gokyo.

Has anyone done this alone? Or should I hire a guide?

Thanks for your advice,

Steve

If you look at this (or other) forum, you will see that many hikers do those treks without guide or porter, also alone . These are major trails with lots of people, plenty of accomodation and food, ... You must only be careful about altitude acclimatization.

Just rephrasing willemspie......
Many did it alone!. You can use a guide (or porter or both) depending on your preferences but as said you will find your way anyways. A guide should know names of mountains and add on flora and fauna and such and may add some "depth and knowledge" to what you see and feel in the trek.
If you need help with the itinerary you can ask for advice here ....................

It’s very easy alone with a guide book to follow. It will depend on what type of person you are and how confident and some experience at hiking and looking after yourself.

If you are not confident then a guide may be needed.

Thanks a lot you all for your kind answer. Do you know if this is easy to find your way, I guess the trails to go from village to village must be pretty obvious?

Thanks,
Steve

There are signs on the trails and many people to ask/consult in October.
If you make a mistake you will recover quickly.

OK thank you so much, guess I'll be able to do it alone!

but, as Willemspie cautions, learn about altitude illness and how to ascend safely!

Have done it twice while Solo / Independent Trekking.....no porter, no guide.

The Trails are very obvious and well marked and at that time of the year, you will no doubt be following a long line of other Trekkers.

As other have said above, know the acclimatisation protocols well, know the warning signs.....listen to and react to your body.
