Hello

I will be staying a long time in Nepal and am going to bring my own bike. Can anyone recommend which airlines flying from the UK to Nepal are the most favorable in terms of carrying bikes and also in terms of luggage allowance? Are there any other restrictions (eg airlines landing in Kathmandu) that I need to be aware of?
Many thanks

Jake

I can't give any advice on the specific question, but have you looked at cycling forums - I have spoken with a few people from the UK who do some quite serious sounding cycling in Nepal. One guy in particular goes to Nepal I think every year for cycling - I think he brought a bike out from the UK, and stored it with Nepalis that he knew.

Hopefully someone will post up with some more specific info and advice.

I will be flying Qatar Airways via Doha, and they have 30 kg weight limit on checked luggage. A bike would fit in with still some 10 kg left for other stuff.

It used to be that Qatar also had a 10 kg 'sporting equipment' allowance, which included bicycle, on top of the 30 kgs.
But unfortuately those 10 kg extra was dropped a few years ago. Since then I have not travelled with Qatar but I somehow think that Qatar now charge you 80 Euros for a bike whether you have 30 kgs or not.
