Hi all

I am thinking to visit Nepal from India where I am currently, then taking a tour to Lhasa.

I would love to see the Himalayas in Nepal and spend some time at 3000m plus to accliamtise before the Tibet trip.

Unfortunately health problems prevent me from doing much trekking. 6-8km and about 250m ascent in a day at the absolute maximum. But probably better to drive in and just day hike.

Does anyone know where this might be feasible? Getting to altitude to accliamtise being the most important thing for me?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Fly to Lukla or Fly to Jomsom. From those places you can see.mountains without having to trek. From Jomsom there are jeeps and buses that can be used to explore
I don't like trekking either, damn hard work...

From Jomsom you can reach Muktinath/Ranipauwa with a jeep or motorcycle, and Ranipauwa (lodge village) is at 3675m altitude, bit higher than Lhasa. If AMS starts to hit you it is easy to ride/walk a bit lower, so it is not dangerous to go there. Great views, good day hikes.

Thanks to you both for the helpful replies. Looking at Wikitravel, Jomsom does seem a good option. Don't have to miss out on Annapurna and the high mountains, but can maintain a gentlemanly pace.

Happy travelling.

If you can do 6-8km a day that can be enough to enjoy about 2/3 of a normal days trekking so you might be surprised you could do more than you think if you take it slower. There are lodges every 2 hours or less so with a map you could plan it and also use a porter to help with the load.
