Hi, I read that the best time to visit Dolpo is between May and October. I would like to start from Beni and walk to Tarakot and around, eventually reaching Dunai or Jumla for a flight back to Pokhara or Ktm. I usually trek in Nepal during the months of December and January(where possible)to avoid the crowds, so I am asking if anybody has experience of trekking in the outer dolpo region in late autumn/early winter. Is it too cold? Too much snow? Are there many trekkers to be seen in Sep/Oct? Than you

Hi,
I did the Lower Dolpo trek starting second week of last September, from Juphal to Jumla in 18 days. There were very few trekkers (a few small groups) and some days we didn't even see anyone. The locals started going down with their tents, so we had to camp for 5 days. There was no snow and it was not too cold either.
All the best

Thank you Jep. So basically in October I will have to carry food and tent with me. Did you fly to Juphal or trekked there from Beni?

I flew to Juphal, as I had already done the Dhorpatan trek from Beni one year earlier and that would have covered partly the same area. I took a bus back from Jumla, which was really scary (not exaggerating!).
If you walk from Beni to Tarakot and Juphal to Jumla, you don't need a tent and food.
If you do the 'classical' Lower Dolpo trek over the Numala and Baga passes as I did, you definitely need a tent, which you can also rent in Juphal, and you have to take food for the days when you're camping. In other places you can get basic food.

Hi changbang

you will find detailed and up to date track notes here https://fedup.com.au/information/nepal/nepal-dolpo-tracknotes

We have found that from mid-September to end of November is the best season, but it depends on what you want.

cheers
