Nope, too many bad reviews, if I go this year I'll pay the extra 100$ or so and find a decent airline. Don't need cold coffee, warm beer, bad food, no entertainment, lack of English, and constant phlegm hawking...all mentioned consistently in reviews.

Maybe in a yr or two when they figure out they are not an interior domestic airline in China where they can get away with that stuff.

Thanks everybody!

I've booked with China Southern Air - I couldn't pass up the $1040 round trip price! I couldn't justify the $400-600 increase (minimum) to book with another airline, so I just went with it.
I don't drink coffee or beer and nor do I watch TV. I'm used to the comforts of my own mind and a good book ;)

I'll be sure to update on the airline on my return!
Wish me luck!

that is a GREAT price and if you arrive there and back w/o horror stories it will definitely be worthwhile...

just out of curiosity what are you dep and return dates. I may even look at that as I live in PDX....the best I saw from PDX some time ago was about 1500$

just plugged in late Nov dep from PDX to KTM and return mid March...1100$....unbelievably inexpensive.....If I was committed to my Singapore flight I'd change as that price is good enough to tolerate any inconvenience except death.....

I also just booked with China Southern/Eastern. My ticket to Nepal from Vancouver in May was just under $1200. I had seen cheaper online, but this one is the shortest amount of travel time to get there.

The worst thing I ever had happen with this airline is that I didn't have a working TV once :( They guarantee their connections which came in handy last year when my flight to India was delayed in Vancouver, they put me on the next plane in China and I was only two hours behind schedule. And free alcohol made up for that, haha.

OK after all of my sticking up for them they'd better not mess up this trip! knock on wood (or "touch wood" as Australians say!)

Good Luck

Yes, that is round trip. I just checked my ticket, it is just China Southern there and back. For some reason I was under the impression it was China Southern one way and China Eastern the other way. Silly me!

Well, that is a fantastic price, as I said in my #12 above....worth it except under the most extreme circumstances.....I'll keep it in mind next time around...looks like this time I'm 'stuck' on Singapore....
