Hi everyone,

I am planning a twelve-day trip to Nepal, covering a few places like Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, Pokhara and Chitwan in May this year.

Is it advisable to just book the hotels and look for tours when in Kathmandu, or is it better to book in advance.

Do anyone have any good tour agencies they have tried, if it is the latter, please?

I always book hotels in advance, and one upside in KTM is that most will pick you up at the airport free.

There are a zillion places to book tours. Have fun shopping.

Thanks. We have limited time, which is why I am trying to sort things out before departure. I am also not sure how trustworthy the agencies are if we just book on the spot for a longer than 1 week tour.

Has anyone tried booking a tour with Wayfarers or President Travel and Tours, please?

Try a search on here. Should throw up a few names.

I wonder how common it is to ask for a discount for the tours, prior to arrival, if the tour prices (some even listed the hotel names) are already stated on their websites? Will this leave a bad taste and hence resulting in a bad tour when we arrive?

Hi orangutan,
It depends on your trust, check their feedback and whether associated with the related local government organization or not. perhaps, you can bargain about the price.

If you haven't booked your hotel yet I thoroughly recommend Kathmandu Guest House, it's one of the original hotels with a variety of rooms from budget to expensive but equally important they will offer you advice and also arrange an itinerary tour for you.
I normally stay in budget accommodation and arrange everything myself but I was there just after the earthquake and when the fuel crisis was on so I treated myself to a stay at the KGH and was impressed with the surroundings and service

Interesting that for a buncha years, KGH got hideous reviews on here and then came several years of silence.

And the other day checking prices on a booking app, I see that they are far far far from being the budget guest house of yore.
