Hi,
I spent last ten days in Kathmandu. Stayed in hotel "Florid", Thamel, Z street. Just want to tell everyone that this place is worth to avoid. I took this hotel because some guy in Pokhara recommended it.
Reason why I'm writing this is that in the end of my staying owner charged me his (quite dirty and overpriced) rooms with extra 10 percent "government tax". Nobody in Nepal does it.
My recommendation is to find another hotel.
All the best,
Jack from Croatia.

i take it you saw the room before you decided to take it? ....

I wouldn't be too sure about that. As far as I recall, I paid the tax (VAT) last year in one place. Other places had it factored in to the room price....

happy travelling

i stayed in hotel NEW florid - I'm guessing it's different place because it was really clean, nice, cheap (200 for nice twin with balcony). Same area of Thamel. No tax added. So no one confuse the two places please!

I'm happy you post said "AVOID" rather than "SCAM". It seems whenever people spend a little more money than the expect, it is now classified as a SCAM. This would not be a scam as it is easy to ask whether tax will be charged. Having been told the rate would be 200 ruppees and then when you are trying to leave the price changes to 500 rupees, that would be a scam.

Hope you learned from your SMALL loss of funds.

Have a great time in Nepal.
