we're thinking of heading to Nepal in November. We both like hiking, biking etc. One of us isn't picky about accomodations, but the other of us would like a little pampering, at least for part of the time, and good food. any suggestions?
Lots of Good Food in Nepal – It’s finding it that’s the problem (Without getting poisoned in the process !!)
I’ve been to Nepal 6 times over the last 13 years and over the years have sussed out a few good eateries -- I have written them up under Restaurant Tips on
My Nepal pages
Along with a few ideas for what to see and do and where to stay
It Might be worthwhile you taking a look ;-)
But finding a Good Bike – That’s a problem that I can’t help you with – Unless it’s a motorbike that you are looking for – In that case, Hearts and Tears M/C Club of Pokhara
Hope that helps

There's nothing wrong with dozens of basic mid-range hotels in the Thamel area, north of the rich explorations of the old-city.
The more luxurious hotels around Darbar Marg (Annapurna, Yak &Yeti) are still reasonable, providing a more comfortable stay; even though the neighborhood is uninteresting, and the touts are much worse. Check the Guides.

The Rumdoodle restaurant in Thamel has pretty good food, at least it will seem terrific after some time in the mountains

Hyatt Hotel, Kathmandu. Get a room with a view of the Boudanath stupa. You can check if your mountain sightseeing or Lukla flights are
on for that day just by looking out the window as the planes fly past. Sure beats sitting rushing to the airport only to hear that mountain flights have been cancelled.
Kathmandu restaurant recommendation - we went to Thamel House restaurant as it was across the street from our travel agent. Good Nepalese food. Attentive service. It's a traditional looking building with upstairs seating on floor cushions in a dark painted wood setting. It's in Thamel on the same street as the Bhagwati mandir temple, the nearest recognisable cross street is the one that Vaishali Hotel is on (the streets don't seem to have names).
For awesome Italian food (in Asia, anyway), try the La Dolce Vita across from the Kathmandu Guest House. Excellent service.
Skip Nanglo. We ordered beef and lamb and got the same mystery meat (buffalo steak?).
Pokhara - Fewa restaurant midway on main drag at the lakeside. Nice garden setting with a view of the lake and parked rowboats. Tasty food. Good service.
