I need a little information on the current situation...
I know that the train system is generally very busy,and you need to book trips in advance.
How about for short distance,popular routes (like Delhi-Agra,for example)?
Do they also need to be booked far in advance,or can you just go to the station and buy a ticket? Are they all seated only,or can you stand up if seats are full? Do you need an RAC ticket in that situation?

I'm looking at alternatives to the Singalila Trek. I don't really want to hire a guide since I am alone, and don't really want to pay the fee and go without a guide. (Or is that "optional" :P ?) Unless maybe there are other people on here interested in joining up for a trek there mid-February ? I'm a pretty strong trekker, so would want people who are happy walking most of the day :)

(Foolishly perhaps....) I am looking at booking online for Ranthambore safari. I understand that wild animals probably don't take a lot of notice of zones, but (recently) which zones are getting more sightings?
I also read that if you book Zone 3, it doesn't mean your vehicle will go into Zone 3. It may be another. Is that correct? I can get gypsy seats on my dates for Zones 7,8,9. Would taking one of those mean I could get the preferred zones 1-5, or just 6-10?
