Hey all...I have successfully booked my train tickets for the first parts of my trip in India, however, as I was trying to book the ticket from Agra to New Delhi I came across something that did not make sense to me.

Here's the detail: Agra (AGC) - New Delhi (NZM) June 5th 07 1103 Intercity Exp

Why did I fail to book this ticket because of "Date Outside Advance Reservation Period"? What does that mean? I thought I could book tickets 60 days in advance, and June 5th is certainly within 60 days. I actually checked the other train that runs on the same from and to the same cities (the station for New Delhi is NDLS though) and that train is open to be booked - but I don't like the time. So what could be the problem with my reservation?

Thanks so much!!

Train 1103 can only be booked up to 30 days in advance, this is the case for a few 'short distance' intercity expresses.

However, you are taking the best train, do not be tempted to book a different train, most trains from Agra to Delhi at that time of the morning have travelled a long distance from their originating station and can easily be delayed by a few hours.

BTW, this train is to be extended to New Delhi station (still calling at Nizamuddin), this was announced in the rail budget, but no date was given for this change.

I recommend you consider booking 2S (bookable 2nd class seat, not air con), it's not just fantastic value for money, it's a great experience, I'd normally be screaming from the rooftops about how wonderful this class is to travel in for short distances, but I'm fully aware that it will be damned hot in June, and the heat should be your main consideration.

Good luck.

Does anyone know what ADTF stands for?

When looking to book trains, I sometimes find 'availability' up to a certain date, then DIFFERENT ADTF for later dates.

I think it means that there are changes to the train’s schedule from that date, I seem to remember this from the time the monsoon timetable begins/ends on the Konkan section, but what do the abbreviation actually stand for? (maybe I could understand it better if I knew this)

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Thanks so much Steven! Now I can be at ease and wait until May to book the ticket. :) Yeah, heat is one of my main considerations when I choose classess...actually 2S does look pretty decent but since I'll be traveling in June, and I have no idea how hot it is gonna be, maybe AC Chair would still be the best choice for this time. If I ever get the luck to go for a second time, I'll definitely venture to try out 2S.

Sorry that I can't answer your question...I'm still struggling even with the basics. ;) Have a good day!

Arrival Departure Time Frame (I think). It sounds like a perfect Indian abbreviation.

Thanks chuckles, that makes perfect sense.

I wasn't even going to ask this question, it's been asked 5 times on Indian Railway websites and never had a reply, so I'm pleasantly surprised to find a reply, cheers.
