Visit to cantonment area in india on e visa

No idea on the cantonment issue, but other permit areas ( ILP, Sikkim permits ..) work the same with both e-visa and regular visas , with the same caveat text . Both are not enough to give access to restricted areas , permits are not affected by which kind of visa you hold.

Some cantonments are restricted, others require you to stop in their mp office to register. You should ask your relatives to find out what the process is at their cantonment.

I'll go with #2 though in past halcyon days I wandered in for the movies and to see a fort acting pretty much like I had permission and making friends quickly..
