Weird situation - looking for anyone with personal experience.

I currently live in Nevada and as such my Indian Consulate would be the one in San Francisco. However, I am from Chicago and will be moving back there AFTER a 6 month RTW trip. I'm going home to Chicago in April and would like to visit the Consulate downtown to get my Visa. Will they check anything to have me prove I live in Chicago - or since I'm going IN to the office, should this not be a problem?

Any personal experience would be appreciated - I'd love to get this taken care of when I'm in town.

Thanks a bunch

In late October 2006 I got a visa at the Indian Consulate in Chicago. All you need to submit is your passport, the application form, two photos, and the fee in US dollars. The fact that I was from Ohio did not prove a problem, even though Ohio residents are supposed to apply to the Consulate in NYC. The application form, I think, requires filling in a permanent address, and they took this at face value.

You might consider using Travel Documents, Inc., or another visa service. For $45 they'll take care of obtaining the visa for you. I've found them reliable and reasonably efficient. Website: www.traveldocs.com.<BR> Duncan

Since you said you were going "home" to Chicago you must have an address there (perhaps a parental address). Use that as your residence address when filling out the form. Even if doing it by mail, if someone at the Chicago address will accept the mailed passport on your behalf, no problem. They won't make you prove that this is your legal address. But it's best not to give them a Nevada address.

Unless it is last minute mail solves so many problems expeditiously..

Good deal - I'll just go in there then and use my parents address. Seems like I can drop off in the AM and pick up in the PM - which is perfect. I'll post back once I got and let you know if I have any difficulties, but I don't expect to based on all this.

Thanks!
