I have just finished a month long trip in India and I would HIGHLY reccommend going to Udaipur and staying at Hotel Udai Niwas. It is right near Lal Ghat and it is also near the Jagdish Temple. I felt so welcome and the manager made sure my stay was brilliant. The room rates were very reasonable for peak season and all the rooms were painted bright colours with beautiful mirror work throughout. The roof top resturant is a great getaway after a busy day on the streets and i didn't want to leave in the end.
you won't regret staying there!
Jess, Australia

I'd also recommend the Hotel Mahendra Prakash; walking distance to the City Palace, nice restaurant, pool table, great swimming pool, and very helpful staff.
Udaipur was easily my favourite city in Rajastan and northern India (never got to Varanasi, unfortunately).

..and Hotel Panorama, across the bridge from the Ghat. Unforgettable kitchen! They offer a cooking course at the home of the proprioter whose wife cooks a mean Tomato/Aubergine Curry.

Hi there
Thanks for your recommandations....very useful....Could you add the price you paid , to have a better infos?
Thanks
Bastien...

I loved where Udai Niwas was situated in the town. within walking distance to everything including the bottle shop for alcohol. i paid about 500 rupees per night but it is WELL WORTH the money. best hotel i have ever stayed in and i go to asia every year.
Wow, such enthusiasm. Has anyone else stayed at this hotel? Always good with more than just one source...

Hey Jess, just registered on TT and all your posts are about advertising about this hotel. I wonder... are you really from Australia....?
Yeah, that's also what I was hinting at. It's always a bit suspicious if people seem too overly enthusiastic about certain hotels, especially people who seem to have registered only for that purpose. Usually they give themselves away with little rookie mistakes such as typical subcontinental language. I can't really figure this one out though.

Well,
I thought this forum was meant to be about sharing ideas with people and helping people. Of course i am a westener and i am back in Australia, unfortunatly back at work. I just had a great time in India and wanted to share some ideas with people who may not have been there before. This hotel is a great place to stay, I know as I stayed there awhile. Obviously, i have not registered to ask for info as i have just come back from there. What is wrong with wanting to help people? Stop being so suspicious about peoples intentions and enjoy the fact that someone is willing to take time out and give people advice.
Jess, don't take it as a personal insult, cause, believe me, it wasn't. Unfortunately you HAVE to be a bit suspicious because forums such as these get flooded by hotel owners, restaurant owners and tour guides posing as satisfied customers and thus misleading people who come to this forum for advice. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to help people, but your original posts just set off a few warning lights (Very enthusiastic, newly registered, fairly short posts, mention of the manager).
