Hi all,

when I went to Tamil Nadu in 2000, colours on the gopurams of Srirangam (Tiruchirapalli) and Sri Meenakshi (Madurai) temples were freshly restored, vivid and a joy to see.

Pictures from 2002 (?) show at least Madurai significantly faded.

How do the temples look today,

please advice as I consider whether to extent my ongoing journey into India' s south.

Thanks a lot,

Frank

I do not know how they looked in either 2000 or 2002. I only know what they looked like in 2006. It was all sufficiently impressive, colorful and interesting that I didn't pay any attention to how fresh the paint was on the gopuras.

While we were there in 2004 they were repainting them. With the enomority of the task, I just assumed it was a non-stop process and once they finished it would be time to start repainting them again.

Picture of repainting effort
