Hello,
We have a short connection in New-Delhi airport.
We will arrive with international flight and continue with domestic flight to Cochin. No need to collect suitcases. We will also already have the Boarding Passes for the flight to Cochin.
We will land at 07:30 am and depart at 14:10.
We thought about a short trip to the Main Bazar.
1. Is it possible? No problem to get out and in the airport?
2. What will be the fastest way to get to the main Bazar and come back?
3. How much time will it take?
4. How much time before the flight we should be back at the airport?

Thanks, Shlomi

Which is the main Bazaar?

What were you hoping to see in that time? Food, shopping, culture?

If you just want to stretch your legs and grab a bite there are some malls nearby the airport.
If you want to get a taste of culture in Delhi, I recommend going to Old Delhi, Jama Masjid, or Nizamuddin.

You can leave your luggage at the cloakroom in the metro and take the metro. You should plan on spending about 1.5-2 hours in the metro roundtrip.
I think you need to check in to a domestic flight two hours ahead, but I'm not certain.

@ShlomiShir

We thought about a short trip to the Main Bazar.

What is the Main Bazaar? Do you mean Chandni Chowk?

  1. Is it possible? No problem to get out and in the airport?

Possible but not very practical.

  1. What will be the fastest way to get to the main Bazar and come back?

The metro. https://www.newdelhiairport.in/to-from-airport-tool.aspx

  1. How much time will it take?

Around 30 minutes travel.

  1. How much time before the flight we should be back at the airport?

With no luggage, and your boarding passes in hand, probably 1.5 hours. Security and identity checks at Indian airports are very thorough and therefore time-consuming.

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed answer.
What do you mean by "not practical"? if we do it, we have about net full 3 hours out the airport. We can stretch our legs, maybe eat something...
Do you have any suggestion for a nice short trip for these hours?

Thanks again, Shlomi

In my opinion it is more trouble than it is worth.

You can stretch your legs and eat something at the airport.

If you are determined to leave the airport, then the metro into New Delhi makes as much sense as anything.

Other suggestions involving a car are too unpredictable in time travelled. A car to Qtub Minar might take 30 minutes. It is just as likely to take one hour. You need certainty because you have such a short time, so if you must leave the airport, take the metro both ways.

The Metro is a delight for those of us who have struggled across Delhi and its traffic for decades. I love Chandni Chowk. But, for a short interval, eating parathas and buying spices and strolling down lanes may not pass cost benefit analysis..

Any suggestion for refreshing 3 hours outside the airport?

Just a note for the future; LP actually list a "Main Bazaar" in Paharganj.

Good to know, and best to avoid. Unless you want to see the cringier side of tourism.
