Hi, i'll get to Delhi at the very end of july, then i'd like to spend a few weeks travelling through rajastan. Some suggestions about a good local travel agency to arrange transports (driver/guide)? I read a lot about heat, but what about the average rainfall? Any suggestion about some out-of-the-beaten-track place not to miss?
thanx in advance
Nico

Nico,

If you need a driver in Rajasthan I can recommend my friend / driver from Delhi.
We are not a travel agency, but we can arrange everything.

I was twelve times in India myself for one month around july.
Never worried about heat or rainfall.

Rajasthan is a dessert, very less rainfall.
I you want to see the rain, better go to Mumbai / Goa.

Some out-of-the-beaten-track place is Shekhawati district.

Several trips there in August, rainfall not a problem but some challenge from heat on the plains. Liked Mt. Abu as a change..

Don't worry about rainfall. August in Rajasthan is monsoon season, but doesn't amount to much these last years, much to the regret of the Rajasthanis. And heat: yes, well, it can be hot, but I myself never found it unbearable and you, being from Italy are probably much more used to high temps than me (remember one time in Toscane, temp. over 40C, but still ok). If you're looking for car and driver, check out: www.heritagerajasthantour.com, Gajraj Travels. It's a website made by a group of independent drivers. They are very reliable, helpful and kind, speak English and drive safely. Being drivers for years already, they know Rajasthan inside-out and can take you to not only the well-known places, but also to places off the beaten track (for example, I liked Dhariyawad, Narlai and Daspan very much). And, might the heat go to your head, Mount Abu is a good choice.
Enjoy!

August is actually a good time to travel in Rajastan. The seering heat of May & June is less, and the scant rain that falls gets rid of the dust. As you move west across the state, it will rain less.

Khimsar (www.khimsar.com),
Khuri (near Jaisalmer),

Luni (www.fortchanwa.com),
Dhamli (ft_dhamli@hotmail.com),
Ranakpur (www.hrhhotels.com see Fatehbagh), Deogarh (http://www.deogarhmahal.com),
Bijaipur (near Chittorgarh),

It's hot in August but with a car with aircon, no problem.

Mont Abu and Bundi usually are the off the beaten track favourites. (mmm, looks like a contradiction here...)
