Hello wise India experts on Thorntree forums!

We're having for holiday in India in late March for two weeks, arriving and departing from Delhi. Although we're experienced travellers this is our first trip to India so would appreciate comments or advice on our itinerary. We usually don't book much in advance as we like being flexible on how long we stay at a location etc. but the general plan is:

Delhi - 2 days
Agra - 1 day
Ranthambhore - 2 days
??? - 3 days
Jaipur - 3 days
Delhi - 2 days

The only definites are the endpoints and from what I understand Delhi might not be worth 4 days but we like a couple days to settle in on arrival and a buffer on exit in case problems getting back to Delhi in time.

Main question = what to do with our extra 3 days? Can anyone recommend somewhere to visit that's relatively close to this area we'll be in that would be good for a short stay? Maybe a smaller town or something off the beaten track?

Thanks in advance for kind replies, and best of luck to all.

Overnight train from Sawai Madhoppur (Ranthambhore) to Udaipur, then another overnight train to Jaipur, this will give you maximum time in Udaipur and save the cost of hotels.

I would recommend Udaipur too.

I would spend less time in Dehli and Jaipur if I were you and concentrate on Jodhpur / Ranakpur, and if time allows Udaipur.
