some airlines have a different price list for foreigners. some dont.
the earlier u book, the better chances of getting lower fares, but means you can be locked in with a highly restricted ticket.

All airlines are equally good or bad. Some like kingfisher, jet and yes indian are better off since they are full service airlines.
For shorter journeys (overnighters), you can travel by train. will save money and hassles.
www.indianrail.gov.in<BR>indian rail has a more liberal refund policy compared to the airlines. and ofcourse much cheaper even when compared to an AC 2 tier train journey.
now indian rail you can book 90 days in advance.
Almost all (train /air) have e tickets so just a print out will do.
