Hi everyone,
I'm looking at two hotels in Mumbai and can't decide.
Residency Hotel and Chateau Windsor. Have you stayed at either one of them?
I've seen couple of people mention Residency and were quite happy with it.
My second question in about taxi cabs from the airport at night.
We're arriving in Mumbai at 10:35pm. Should we arrange the taxi from the hotel (900inr, too much?) or can we get one at the airport?
I've heard that if our flight arrives later than midnight we may have to pay a lot more.
Thanks a million for any suggestions.

i recently asked someone about the chateau windsor because its in a pretty good location.
he is a travel agent so in the know about all this. He said its third class. Now i dont know how that is compared to residency. but he said that hotel sea green and sea green south are better. In the same price range and almost the same location.
But then again, someone on the forum has stayed in chateau for a few months i think. he is still around or he got banned?
About the taxi fare. pre paid from airport is 400 Rs. 900 is too much.
prepaid i think the time does not matter. you can clarify that from the airport prepaid desk. and u pay only once.
it should take 1 hour at that time.
I can vouch for both Sea Green & Sea Green South (on Marine Drive). I recently booked a room in each one for friends from abroad. My friends did not wish to have rooms with carpets (allergies & so on), but needed an aircon. A large sea-facing room with the afore-mentioned pre-conditions cost Rs. 2520/-. The rooms weren't posh, but were squeaky clean (I chekced them out personally). Here are the links: Sea Green & Sea Green South.

Hi, thanks so much for your help.
I was actually looking at both sea greens but decided to skip them as they don't have the best reviews on trip advisor. I will reconsider now.
I normally don't mind hostels with shared baths and without hot water but I want something a little better for the first two nights.
Thanks so much Indianresident and SoulCurry.

I know of a hotel in colaba called the Hotel Diplomat. It is around 2500 rupees a night but is quite nice for the money. it is right behind the Taj Hotel and accross from the salvation army. I stayed there a month ago. Own bathroom, hot water, aircon and a paper delivered every morning to your door step. Good value in mumbai!!!!!! and CLEAN
with no carpet!!!!!

Just to make things more confusing.. I would also highly recommend Residency Hotel in Fort..!
Doesnt have the sea views but the rooms and bathrooms are super clean and the staff are all lovely. about 1800rs per night and in the middle of the busy Fort area - nice if thats your thing, but I guess abit chaotic if its not. check out www.residencyhotel.com

About the airport taxis, yes just go to the PrePaid Booth on your way out and let them know the hotel name. I think there is a small after midnight surcharge but maybe just 20 or 30 rupees.
I also have see Chateau Windsor and thoguht it was nice and very clean - one big advantage is they have a small internet cafe going on,with about 5 computers (Residency also has 1 in the lobby but connection not so good). also they are very helpful with train bookings etc..

as far as help with train bookings are concerned, isnt that a thing of the past?
all one needs is access to the net and a printer and you are all set. so thats not really a selling point anymore.
diplomat rings a bell..... i think i have been there for a party.
its right behind Taj. and it was a pretty decent hotel from what i remember, so i dont think it would be 2500/- for a room. little more maybe.
not that it would help, but if you have time to kill, I (or maybe someone else here ) can look up and send you the coordinates of chateau, hotel sea green (approx), sea green south and hotel diplomat. dont remember the residency though.
And you can chart your way from the airport to the hotel of your choice. how you'll figure out the plan view from the elevation beats me though.

Thank you so much every one.
Yes, I'll just go to the taxi booth at the airport and give the hotel name.
Hotel Diplomat looks great but it's a little more expensive than Residency.
I think I'll book Residency.
Thanks so much once again.
I'll be posting some more questions soon...

you hand over the prepaid receipt to the Cabbie at the END of the journey. once you have removed your luggage and stepped out of the cab and seen your hotel neon lights.

Thank you Indianresident, that was very helpful, I didn't know that.
One more question.
I need to book some internal flights.
Should I do it now or wait a little (I'm arriving at the end of July)?
Which airline out of the budget airlines is the most reliable one (technical, mechanical wise etc)?
I looked into SpiceJet and the fares are great (are the airline pretty good?) or do you suggest any other ones?
We have a few flights that we have to take in July and August.
Thank you once again. I will post this question as a new topic as well.
