Hi Guys/gays,

Planned to travel to Leh on Jul/Aug 2018. Comments/suggestion needed for the below:

D1 New Dehli to Manali by bus. Overnight in Manali

D2 Manali local sightseeing. Overnight in Manali

D3/4 Manali to Leh via Keylong by bus. Overnight in Keylong/Leh

D5 Leh local sightseeing. Overnight in Leh

D6 Leh to Pangong Lake. Overnight in Pangong Lake

D7 Pangong Lake

D8 Pangong Lake - Leh. Overnight in Leh

D9 Leh to Turturk. Overnight in Turtuk

D10 Turtuk local sigtseeing Overnight in Turtuk

D11 Turtuk to Leh. Overnight in Leh

D12 Leh - New Dehli by flight/bus

We are kind of slow and relax type of traveler. Enjoying nature and local culture.

  1. If it is advisable to rent a motorbike/car and do our own moving around upon reaching Leh?

a) If yes, do we need international driving license?

b) If it easy to get petrol along the way between Leh - Pangong Lake and Leh - Turtuk?

c) Any recommended motorbike/car rental?

  1. if not advisable for (1) above, any drive that his service is being recommended and what kind of cost that I should budget in?

  2. We are budget traveller but at the same time would like to help the locals. Any guesthouse/homestay that highly recommended? We are looking for nomad style especially in Leh/Pangong/Turtuk area.

  3. Do we need to engage with a guide for Manali local sightseeing? Possible for us to rent a motorbike to move around in Manali area or by walking it is do-able?

  4. Between Jul and Aug - which month is recommended as we would like to avoid the crowd?

  5. We are considering to do a camel ride, or overnight in the desert for Leh - Turtuk leg. If this advisable or do-able?

thanks in advance for any sharing.

Highest night always last : do Nubra before Pangong Tso.

Both July and August are peak season in Ladakh , highest chances of rain in August.

The Bactrian camels is a one man operation in the small dune landscape between Hunder & Diskit. Fairly high prices even for a one hour trot , and more for the half day. Afaik they havent crossed the Khardung La in their life time.

One petrol station in Diskit for Nubra.
