Thanks

This has no practical value ( and it was nice description in the other parts ) , just interesting/entertaining : Drass is taken to one more ( hyped ) level of cold in the +Srinagar to Leh+ text. The original claim found on a sign there is "second coldest place on earth " . The other ... place in this line of reasoning : Siberia - population 140 million. I have been in Drass in December - everyone had naked hands and a minority had some sort of cap or hat . There was also water running over the ground . Yes , it gets a lot colder at night , but not that much. It´s barely three thousand meters high , and they have , well daylight in the day , being at the same latitude as Damascus. Other places that are a lot higher ( like Nakchu town in Tibet @ 4500 meters ) or above the Arctic Circle ( with no daylight in the day during peak winter ) will be colder.
There is also a lot of the worlds highest claims floating about in Ladakh , Spiti , Sikkim etc. Modi took this to a new level last year when he tweeted about landing in "the worlds highest airport" in Leh : its actually not among the ten highest .
