I just spoke to a company that provides accommodation during the kumbh mela and they told me only during that the Shahi Snan dates is only when the Naga Sadhus do the procession and the bath. Not on the rest of the bathing dates. Is that correct? I mean not in March 4th for instance during the Maha Shivratri?
Thanks for your help!
Is that correct?
I don't know, but that is my understanding. There are two more Shahi Snan for this mela - 4 February and 10 February.
I mean not in March 4th for instance during the Maha Shivratri?
Whilst there may not be a procession, it is hard to imagine the nagas not celebrating Maha Shivratri.
Life Support! You certainly make my life so much easier when it comes to India. Would you only recommend to go on Shahi Snan? I am working on my flight an all now. But is easier for me to go on March 4th. Very different? For March 4th I might apply for a Journalist visa.
Difficult to say; in certain cities the Nagas do have a procession on Maha Shivratri. Pilgrims in attendance at the mela will certainly bathe - it is an auspicious bathing day. Maha Shivratri is a major observance, in particular for Shaivites; and the Nagas are Shaivites so they will celebrate the occasion.
So with without commit yourself you would bet on that? I mean you would give it a go.
I mean for March 4th I can have a media pass. For Feb 10 I would be more in a hurry with no pass.
What would you go for?
In either case, I would want at least a couple of days at the mela; one day won't be enough.
On the presumed advantage of the media pass, then 4 March makes sense; however if the choice is 4 March alone; or 2-3 days in February, I would take February.
That said, you'll need a 2-3 days onsite, because the roads to the site will be closed / congested before major bathing days.
