I am planning on travelling from Sri Lanka to Kerela in June. However, I can't decide whether to take a flight from Colombo to Cochin or from Colombo to Tivandrum? Can anyone advise me please on what is the best place to base myself.

There is one option of flying to Cochin and then doing a tour and then catching our return flight from Trivandrum to Colombo......

Thanks in advance.

Cochin is in Kerala.

Do some research. What are you looking to do? There are more diverse things around Trivandrum - so this is the place I would choose of the 2.

you would want to see the area between cochin and trivandrum anyway, so either way it wouldn't matter where you start, the round trip seems a good option. If you want a cool place to stay, try Pon Mudi, a hill station near Trivandrum. It will be hot on the coast......

Hi sorry - Yes I know that Cochin is in Kerela. ....what I meant to label the title as was 'whether I should choose Cochin or Trivandrum' in Kerela? Sorry!

i accidentally stayed in Trivandrum (or Thiruvananthapuram - which looks cooler) and Kochi for 3 weeks each a couple of years ago. I found the latter to be way more interesting and aesthetically pleasing. If I were you I would fly into Kochi and out of Trivandrum, so that way if you're pressed for time you won't have to miss Kochi.

Hi

You can start at any of the two, but stay in Kovalam or Varkala if you are in the Trivandrum area. In Cochin stay in Fort Cochin as it is beautiful and has a lot to do.

The Rajdhani Express operates both ways and leaves Trivandrum at 19h15 and arrives in Ernukalam about three hours later. I took the train straight up to Goa.

Enjoy

Hi, I just left Trivandrum after 3 days, and before that, I stayed in Fort Cochin for 3 days as well. Fort Cochin is a pleasant place to stay in, and you can organise day trips to Munnar, do a backwater cruise, do some shopping in Ernakulam.
Trivandrum is a mess of a town, the whole centre is being dug up, but once you get out into the countryside it's lovely. Forget Kovalam, it's terrible. Went to Podmuni, terrible road, and not much to do at the top of the mountain, nice scenery though. Did also a day trip to Kanyakumari, was excellent. The Gandhi memorial is quite 'moving'.

Either city is fine, and I found myself going from Cochin down to Trivandrum so maybe that's the best option. Otherwise both cities are connected via an excellent and scenic train route. It's been pouring down pretty much every afternoon lately, it's 'freak summer monsoon' weather according to the locals.
Enjoy, 10p
