My polemic for today:

To be honest funloving, i find most people's travel snaps do not capture the essence of the places. I love my own travel snaps because i also have the bigger picture from my experience. I do not expect anyone else would think overly much of them. I am usually underwhelmed by the stuff (snaps) that people people post on here. On the other hand, i found it helpful to be able to see a bit of Zanskar which i found via google images.

There was an excellent snap clip on you tube that someone posted here recenlty - maybe the bike branch. They were making the same point as i have just said but with much more punch and panache. I wish i had kept the link but they had made a video clip lasting 3 minutes (which was much too long) showing 400 snaps i think and 60 countries.

I also liked having the surprise of not know what to expect visually. It was enough for me to know that Kashmir was supposed to be beautiful and that the houseboat experience was said to be excellent. I didn't find Kashmir particularly stuning but then i didn't see that much of it. But i did find Srinagar very interesting and the drive up to sonnamarg had beautiful scenery.

I think literature conveys much better than most people's holiday snaps the beauty of a place. Because it leaves room for your imagination. Most people's holiday snaps do nothing for the imagination. On the other hand, a good photograph is a good photograph and does its job.
